It is with sincere appreciation and a deep sense of continued responsibility that ACART shares an important update about the future. Since 2009, our volunteers have worked tirelessly to ensure that animals in our community had a safe place during emergencies and disasters. This mission has always depended on strong membership, clear operational guidance, and consistent support from the agencies responsible for our activation.
Unfortunately, due to steadily declining membership and lack of additional support, ACART is no longer in a position to reliably respond during disasters to provide emergency sheltering for animals. This conclusion has not been reached lightly. It reflects the reality that we cannot fulfill our commitments without the necessary personnel, resources, and coordination.
As we move forward with this decision, we are working closely with the Amador Community Foundation, with the long-term wellbeing of our community in mind, to transition our organization into that of a support roll to continue to benefit the County.
During this transition, the Amador Community Foundation is helping us navigate the process with care, transparency and respect for the volunteers and supporters who have sustained ACART’s mission for so many years.
We remain profoundly grateful to every volunteer, partner, and community member who has supported ACART’s work. Your dedication has made a meaningful difference in the lives of countless animals and their families.
We encourage the community to stay engaged, stay informed, and continue advocating for strong, well-supported animal emergency response resources in our region. Thank you for your understanding and for the compassion you have shown throughout ACART’s 17 years of service.
